Drill Press Stand

Ever get tired of taking things out just to use them quickly and then put them away again? That is what drove me to do this project. I hated having to lift my drill press up onto the work bench and fumble through bits just to drill one hole. This led to me not using the drill press often and just drilling by hand which causes inaccuracies. So I took all the measurements of my current drill press (and potential future drill presses) and designed a simple cabinet to hold the drill press and everything that goes along with it. I decided to add four drawers to hold all of the accessories like bits, chuck keys, etc. To make the drawers slides, I ended up cutting 1/4” dados in a sheet of plywood at the correct spacing and then ripped the sheet in half. That gave me two perfect matching sides. When I made the drawers I let the 1/4” bottom panel overhang each edge and these became my runners for the dados I had cut in the case sides. With a little bit of paste wax these drawers work perfectly. I ended up deciding to trim this out with some buggy walnut I had since I couldn’t use it on furniture. This stand ended up fitting my needs perfectly and allows for potential growth if I get a larger drill press in the future. All of my tools neatly store away In the drawers and are accessible at all times. This makes the engineering side of me very happy!
